Rooted in Community. Driven by Opportunity.
For more than 55 years, Luna Community College has been creating opportunities for students, families, and communities across northeastern New Mexico. As the region's only community college, Luna is more than a place to earn a degree or certificate, it's a place where ambition meets opportunity, where communities come together, and where futures are built.
Nestled on the eastern slopes of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in Las Vegas, New Mexico, Luna proudly serves students from diverse backgrounds, experiences, and stages of life. Whether students are preparing for a career, transferring to a university, learning a new skill, or pursuing a lifelong dream, Luna provides accessible, affordable, and high-quality education designed to meet them where they are.
In addition to our main campus in Las Vegas, Luna serves communities throughout northeastern New Mexico through satellite campuses in Springer, Santa Rosa, and Mora, along with educational partnerships across our service area. Our commitment has always been to bring education closer to the people and communities we serve.
At Luna, small class sizes, dedicated faculty, hands-on learning experiences, and strong community connections create an environment where students are known by name and supported every step of the way. We believe education should be accessible, practical, innovative, and transformative.
Our Legacy
Luna Community College traces its roots to 1969, when local communities came together with a shared vision: to create educational opportunities that would strengthen northeastern New Mexico for generations to come.
The college was named in honor of Captain Maximiliano Luna, a respected military leader, public servant, and member of Theodore Roosevelt's Rough Riders. Captain Luna's legacy of service, leadership, and commitment to community continues to inspire our mission today.
Originally established as the Luna Area Vocational Technical School, the institution evolved alongside the needs of the region, expanding its academic and workforce programs while maintaining its strong commitment to career and technical education. In 2000, the college officially adopted the name Luna Community College to reflect its comprehensive mission of serving students, employers, and communities throughout northeastern New Mexico.
Today, Luna continues to build on that legacy by preparing students for careers, transfer opportunities, leadership roles, and lifelong learning.
Mission
Luna Community College is dedicated to providing accessible, innovative, and integrated learning experiences that prepare students to compete at the forefront of their chosen fields and to lead in their communities.
