Duties and responsibilities:

DEFINITION:

This position is under limited supervision and under the direction of the Manager within the Admissions and Recruitment Department. The Student Services Advisor/Recruiter oversees the activities related to student admissions and recruitment. Plans, coordinates, and promotes the Community and Continuing Education Program, (including arrangements with potential instructors). Assists potential instructors in completing the course application process (including the arrangement of class locations), equipment and instructor contracts, coordinates course offerings, and manages on-going registration for mini-courses offered by the College. All functions are not limited to, online and on and off-site admissions, student recruitment, development of recruitment schedules, policies and procedures, and program calendars.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act may include, but are not limited to the following characteristics, duties, responsibilities, knowledge, skills and other characteristics.

At the discretion of the immediate supervisor, other job related duties may be assigned as necessary.

TASKS:

Contacts high school students and the general public to provide information about Luna Community College. Develops recruitment success reports for all recruitment activities, to include number of contacts, and number of contacts registered.

Participates in strategic planning and attends college fairs, career days, open house programs, and multiple other recruitment events. Participates in and develops newspaper articles, radio announcements, and other media to promote Luna Community College.

Assists leadership in the development of marketing strategies for online and on-site enrollment. Assists Academic departments in the development of informational brochures, program literature and other information essential for recruitment activities. Provides admission information to include tuition information, financial assistance, scholarships, student services, and application and registration procedures, processes and general information.

Arranges with potential instructors for Community Education classes and assists them in completing the course application process, including arranging class location, equipment and advertising and instructor contacts.

Admission/Recruitment function:

ACCESS Center Functions:

Provides individual and group academic and career advisement. Advises students regarding issues including major, program of study, employment outlook, occupational salary and demand, college/program requirements, graduation requirements, and transfer to and from other post-secondary institutions; assists students in identifying and assessing career goals, job search strategies, writing resumes, and interviewing skills through presentations and workshops; assists program with the design, marketing and delivery of workshops; develops program marketing publications, handbooks, brochures, and correspondence. May participate in the development or conduct student activities. With the direction of ACCESS Center supervisor plans on-going test calendars, develops and updates, revises testing policies and procedures for the institution and needs of on-site and off-site student populations. Testing may consist of various delivery methods that align with student placement requirements within the institution. Train and supervise tutors in the facilitation of retaining students.
Operates and utilizes assessment software program. Conducts test taking workshops and other relevant workshops. Validates cutoff scores and makes recommendations to the director.
Interprets entrance, interest, assessment and placement assessments to incoming LCC students; advise students; prepares student files and maintains placement records.
Dual Credit/Concurrent Enrollment is a responsibility that aligns with student testing, advisement, academic placement, student retainage, job placement, and career advisement. However this function is at the high school level as per institutional and state policy and statute.

Registration functions:

Maintains student academic records ensuring accuracy, and preservation of academic credentials in accordance with institutional policy, accreditation standards and privacy laws. Processes registrations, course requests, course cancellations and maintains organized records and files, maintains grad and transcript processing; inputs all midterm and final grades; assist with academic information for graduation clearance, including processing degree prepares reports when required. Serves as liaison between institutional departments, universities, and other external agencies, as appropriate. Assists students with the registration process and resolves student registration discrepancies. Researches information as necessary to respond to inquiries or addresses specific student concerns. Processes transfers of credit, adds, drops, complete withdrawals, course audit forms, as well as other internal/external office forms. Contacts student regarding filed classes, incomplete or inaccurate documents. Continuously process and monitor Veterans educational benefits for qualifying students. Assists Registrar with all functions relative to the graduation ceremony.
Knowledgeable and well-rounded in understanding catalog, policies, procedures, pre and co-requisites, all program requirements and fiscal matters as they relate to students.

Assist students in the smooth completion of admissions and enrollment into LCC. Provide student information in reference to student support to include tutoring, study skills, note taking, and other relevant services.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:

Knowledge of educational advising/counseling methods and techniques.
Knowledge of LCC academic, vocational/technical and community education programs.
Knowledge of policies and procedures for admissions, recruitment, testing, advisement, tutoring, placement and registration.
Knowledge of on-line admissions, recruitment, testing, tutoring and registration.
Knowledge and skills in working with individuals in a group or individual basic.
Knowledge of computer-based testing and machine scoring.
Knowledge of planning and scheduling techniques.
Knowledge of educational development test administration and interpretation.
Skill in interpreting tests and relating them to student’s educational and vocational goals
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other department staff, faculty, students and the public.
Skill in the design of print media, flyers, and brochures.
Skill in photography for displays, brochures, print media and flyers.
Ability to supervise and train tutors, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors’ degree in social science, science or related field. One (1) year of related higher education or closely related experience. Knowledge of post-secondary services available to students. Knowledge of academic advisement, interpretation of assessments and other related areas. Must be computer literate. Must have a valid New Mexico Driver’s License

Salary:

Salary is based on the LCC salary schedule and is commensurate with education and occupational-related experience.
