Duties and responsibilities:

DEFINITION:

Under administrative direction, oversees and directs all activities and staff of the Culinary Arts, Automotive Collision Repair, Automotive, Quilting, Welding, Furniture and Cabinetry, Building Trades, Commercial Drivers License, and Cosmetology; and participates in a collaborative capacity in institutional activities. Assumes teaching role each semester, including summers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act may include, but are not limited to the following characteristics, duties, responsibilities, knowledge, skills and other characteristics.

At the discretion of the immediate supervisor other job related duties may be assigned as necessary.

TASKS:

Determines and oversees short- and long-term direction and activities for the vocational studies program; plans and prepares program budgets; financial, accreditation, and related reports and funding proposals; represents the institution at State and other external forums.

Prepares department goals and initiatives in collaboration with faculty, the Dual Credit Coordinator, satellite coordinators, schools, community and Vice President of Academics.

Recruits and provides support for faculty in curriculum planning, assessment, classroom instruction planning and evaluation, syllabus preparation and problem solving; establishes and maintains chemical hygiene plans, hazardous waste handling procedures and related safety practices; prepares performance appraisals and participates in professional development planning activities; conducts department meetings and provides information on institutional activities.

Initiates and administers student recruitment and retention efforts related to the science, trades and technology program, including advising prospective students, arranging tours and community outreach events, settling grievances, etc.

Prepares and presents classroom instruction and implements techniques to facilitate student active learning; prepares and grades tests and student papers; advises and tutors students.
Participates in institutional, professional and other internal committee activities; establishes and maintains external professional contacts and relationships; conducts ongoing research to maintain currency in science, trades and technology fields.

Other Duties as assigned: I.E. (Board Meetings, Committees, Trainings, and Interviews).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:

Knowledge of budget development and administration.
Knowledge of adult learning theory, curriculum development and classroom presentation techniques.
Knowledge of counseling and advising methods and techniques.
Knowledge of research methodology and information resources related to science, trades and technology.
Knowledge of supervisory and coaching principles and practices.
Knowledge of chemical hygiene plans, hazardous materials handling and related safety practices.
Skill in program development, administration and evaluation.
Skill in preparing and presenting classroom lectures.
Skill in the use of standard office equipment, including personal computer and standard office software.

Qualifications:

Must have a valid New Mexico Driver’s License. Master’s degree and three (3) years of business and/or supervisory experience required. Teaching in an educational institution preferred.

Salary:

Salary is based on the LCC salary schedule and is commensurate with education and occupational-related experience. Standard LCC benefits apply.
