Duties and responsibilities:

DEFINITION:
This position is under limited supervision and under the direction of the Director of Nursing Department. The Student Success Coach supports student success, retention and progression to graduation; provides individualized student outreach to students who are identified at risk; connects students to relevant campus resources; provides academic coaching and support for students on an ongoing basis; monitors and tracks progress of students; maintains communication with faculty and staff in support of students: and directs individual student remediation under supervision of instructor of record.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

At the discretion of the immediate supervisor other job related duties may be assigned as necessary.

TASKS:
Provides individualized outreach to students based on identified risk factors including academic, financial and socio-emotional; assists them in developing individual plans for success. Refers and connects students with relevant Community College resources and coordinates with other Community Colleges regarding additional outreach and support.
Works with individual students, including outreach and support, to develop realistic goals that will contribute to academic and personal success in college; develops relationships that foster developmental conversations; motivates students to achieve educational goals; informs students of services available; and assists, informs and prepares students in academic affairs.
Monitors and records progress of individual students; maintains consistent and confidential records of individual student data. Understands, accepts, and abides by the College’s policies, procedures philosophy and mission statement in all College activities. Coordinates ongoing communication concerning the student’s academic program and the student’s progress towards achieving goals and reports pertinent data to the Director of Nursing on a regular basis.
Works with instructor of record for individual student remedial completion and progression through semester blocks.
Provides for student retention and counseling which include proactive support of risk student to include frequent monitoring, enrichment sessions and identifying measures to promote success. Develops strategies/incentives to increase student achievement/success. Plans special school event activities to foster partnerships with community. Serves on Luna Community College committees.
Other duties as assigned: I.E. (Board Meetings, Committees, Trainings, and Interviews).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:

Knowledge of educational advising/counseling methods and techniques.
Knowledge and skills in working with individuals in a group or individual basic.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other department staff, faculty, students and the public.
Skill in interpersonal/human relations.
Knowledge of planning and scheduling techniques.
Ability to supervise and train tutors, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
Knowledge of educational development test administration and interpretation.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Skill in the design of print media, flyers, and brochures.
Skill in photography for displays, brochures, print media and flyers.
Operational knowledge of computers including MS Office (Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint) and web-related technology.
Knowledge of student development and resources to promote student success.
Skill in verbal and written communications.
Ability to identify students' needs for support services in order to make appropriate referrals.
Ability to encourage and empower students to make their own decisions
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Commitment to supporting the needs of students from underrepresented populations

Qualifications:

Bachelors’ degree in education, social science, science or related field required. One (1) year of related higher education or related experience preferred.

Salary:

Salary is based on the LCC salary schedule and is commensurate with education and occupational-related experience. Standard LCC benefits apply.
