Position Overview


In support of LCC’s enrollment, retention and graduation goals, establishes and administers programs for recruiting students to Luna Community College. Independently represents the institution to targeted constituencies and/or territories. Develops and maintains relationships with identified partners within the institution, the community and beyond. Develops and implements strategies to enhance recruitment.

Essential Job Functions

• Represents LCC to targeted constituencies; visits elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, and colleges; speaks to groups and individual students; meets with school counselors, administrators and/or other constituent groups to promote outreach activities and, as required, to assist other recruiters.
• Provides career and academic counseling, planning, and advising to potential students, utilizing specific knowledge educational programs and degrees at LCC and other institutions.
• Coordinates participation of staff and alumni for national and local college recruitment fairs, conferences and related outreach events;
• Coordinates LCC recruiting events, and associated promotional materials and information from all areas of the college.
• Prepares reports and proposals regarding recruitment and outreach activities, and responds to inquiries from students and community agencies.
• Creates, packages, monitors and distributes resource materials for student recruitment and retention programs; develops mentorship programs; analyzes trends in recruitment and retention programs; develops and implements strategies for program evaluation.
• Assists students throughout the admissions process, from advising students on admission requirements, to assisting students with admissions, financial aid and other paperwork, through to regular admission status.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

SPECIALIZED ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Although all Admissions Counselors will participate in all student support functions, this position is responsible for maintaining expertise in the following specialized areas.

• Serves independently as the point person for internal coordination of student recruitment and enrollment management goals, utilizing specific knowledge gained from admissions, registration criteria and financial aid and/or scholarship information and deadlines.
• Coordinates and implements all aspects of large, multi-departmental special events, utilizing presentation and promotional materials and maintaining budgetary and operational controls.
• Coordinates with multiple entities and represents the college at local, statewide and national events for prospective students.
• Oversees and implements campus life and student club initiatives.
• Updates, disseminates and processes applications for chartering clubs at the college.
• Manages the process through which clubs receive seed funding
• Ensures that all clubs adhere to college policies and procedures that govern club spending, fundraising and accounting, including providing training for club sponsors and club officers.
• Coordinates the planning and execution of campus events, including, but not limited to the following: Thanksgiving luncheon; Halloween celebration; commencement luncheon; mid-term events; Winter light parade and campus lighting; welcome back activities for fall and spring semesters.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• General office support practices and procedures
• Knowledge of policies, practices, procedures and terminology of assigned function
• Proficient with a variety of computer software, including word processing, database and spreadsheet applications
• Records processing and maintenance procedures and systems
• Proficient in English composition, grammar and punctuation and composing letters and preparing reports
• Filing/records systems
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions and procedures
• Ability to operate typical office equipment, including personal computer and standard office computer programs
• Skill communicating orally and in writing

Work Environment and Physical Factors

• Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. The worker sits most of the time.
• The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading and visual inspection.
• The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

Education, Experience and Licenses

• Bachelor’s Degree in any field is required.
• At least three years of responsible experience providing direct customer service or office support is required.
• Or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
