Position Overview

This position provides transportation services for university employees, students, visitors, and faculty while ensuring transportation services and passenger safety. Monitors equipment and performs limited maintenance.


Essential Job Functions

• Drives a college-owned bus, providing safe and efficient transportation to the college community and its visitors.
• Performs routine vehicle inspection and maintenance including checking the oil, fuel, brakes, lights, windshield wipers, and water and tire pressures.
• Provides information and other general assistance to the college community and its visitors.
• Maintains DOT approved logbook hours of work performed; makes timely reports of accidents, incidents, and unusual occurrences.
• Must comply with Department of Transportation regulations and departmental policies and procedures.
• Reliable and committed to driving scheduled game dates.
• Performs other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of basic vehicle inspection and maintenance including tire pressure, checking oil and water levels
• Ability to understand and follow safety procedures
• Ability to safely and efficiently operate a loaded passenger bus
• Ability to adapt to changing work priorities and meet deadlines;
• Ability to work as a team or independently.


Work Environment and Physical Factors

• Exerting up to 50 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push pull or otherwise move objects and lifting greater than fifty (50) pounds occasionally and sitting most of the time.
• Driving long hours, standing, walking, bending, squatting, climbing, and kneeling frequently.
• Some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
• Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.


Education, Experience and Licenses

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• A valid New Mexico CDL Class B or A with a Passenger Endorsement License is required.
• Two (2) years of practicing experience is required.
