Position Overview

PAY GRADE: 37

This position is responsible for the maintenance and repair of existing electrical equipment, fire alarm and transformer systems. Also, this position promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety practices.


Essential Job Functions

• Repairs and maintains facility’s electrical equipment.
• Maintains fire alarm equipment.
• Maintains electrical components of shop equipment.
• Maintains heating and cooling units.
• Diagnosis and repairs heating and cooling units.
• Repairs and assembles existing electrical equipment.
• Assists in the maintenance of parts and equipment; ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
• Performs other duties as assigned


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Experience with scheduling activities
• Ability to analyze technical drawings, building plans, wiring diagrams
• Good organizational skills
• Good problem solving skills


Work Enviornment and Physical Factors

• Physical activities: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, pushing, pulling, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, repetitive motion, and hearing are daily job activities.
• Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• The worker is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned or to make general observations of facilities or structures.
• The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside; subjected to extreme cold (below 32) for periods of more than one hour. Also, worker is exposed to extreme heat (above 100) for periods of more than one hour.
• The worker is subject to noise that may cause the worker to shout in order to be heard.
• The worker is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
• The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions such as fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.


Education, Experience and Licenses

• High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) is required.
• At least three years of experience as an Electrician is required.
• Heating and Cooling Knowledge desirable
• OSHA certification is required.
• New Mexico Journeyman Electrician license is required.
• New Mexico Driver License is required.
