Lady Rough Riders playing their best as postseason tournament nears


The Luna Community College softball team is playing their best at the right time of the season as they go into the Region 9 tournament having won seven of their last nine games.

The Lady Rough Riders are the fifth seed and will play fourth seeded Otero College at 8 a.m. on Thursday, May 4 at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colo. If the Lady Rough Riders win on Thursday, they play No. 1 seed Northeastern Junior College at 3:30 p.m. also on Wednesday. If they lose to Otero College, they will play at 8 a.m. on Friday with a team to be determined. It is a double elimination tournament.

Luna is 12-17 in conference play and 15-30 overall.

“It has been a long season with many ups and downs and it’s nice for the girls to experience success at the right time,” said Luna Head Coach Randy Krutsch. “It is the first top five seed in school history. We set a school record with 49 homeruns. The players worked hard all year. We’re excited to be going.”

The seeding for the Region 9 tournament is as follows: No. 1, Northeastern Junior College, No. 2, Trinidad State, No. 3, McCook Community College, No. 4, Otero College, No. 5, Luna Community College, No. 6, Western Nebraska Community College and No. 7, Lamar Community College.
