Luna hires Erick Wright to lead baseball program
Luna Community College hired Erick Wright as its head baseball coach. Wright has been the head baseball coach at North Central Texas College in Gainesville since 2015.
“I feel great and excited about the new challenge in my life,” said Wright. “I want to continue building the team from last year and moving forward. I love the area; my daughter was born in Roswell.”
Wright has been around baseball for over three decades. Wright was an assistant baseball coach at North Central Texas College from 2008-2015 and was an assistant coach at New Mexico Military Institute from 2007-2008. Wright has also been the head baseball coach at Dodge City Community College from 2001-2005. He was also an associate scout for the Colorado Rockies from 2006-2007.
Three hundred of Wright’s players have gone on to play at a four-year institution and 200 of his players have played at the NCAA Division I level. Seventy of Wright’s players have been selected in the major league draft with four of his players earning All-American honors.
“Expect our team to be very disciplined and fundamentally sound,” said Wright. “Expect our team to be enthusiastic and love the game. We want to make sure that our student-athletes have dignity and pride in the academic, athletic and personal aspect of their lives.”
Wright played at Sul Ross State University in 1993 and 1994 and played professionally with the Regina Cyclones in Canada.
“Our immediate goal is to have a competitive team on the field and our long term goal is to build a tradition where our student-athletes move on to the next level and have success,” says Wright.
Wright takes over for Harry Estep who is now the head baseball coach at Highlands University.
