Luna softball take one win from El Paso CC; Rough Riders lose four to Eastern Arizona
Luna’s Alicia Velsaquez was the winning pitcher during the last game of four against El Paso Community College on Sunday, Jan. 20 on the road. The Lady Rough Riders took that game 12-3 after losing the first three 5-7, 4-15 and 4-14 during weekend action.
“We’re a young team, we have a lot of freshmen,” said Luna Coach Randy Krutsch. “Many players on our team learned about college softball. It was a great learning experience.”
Krutch said that Velasquez and Angelica Ortiz combined for five homeruns during the weekend.
The Lady Rough Riders are scheduled to play Odessa College, Barton College and Midland College on the road this weekend.
“We want to play a tough pre-conference schedule,” says Krutsch.
In Luna baseball action, the Rough Riders dropped four to Eastern Arizona on the road. The scores were 3-8, 0-10, 3-4 and 0-12. In the third game of the series, the Rough Riders led 3-2 after five innings. Brenden Michel, Nomar Basurto and Jadon Trujillo each scored a run for the Rough Riders.
The Rough Riders play New Mexico Military Institute on the road on Saturday, Feb. 3 and Sunday, Feb. 4.
