Four Luna baseball players have received Region 9 honors
Congratulations to Luna baseball players Diego Quinonez, Ashton Luera,Kohle Kerin and Jose Villabollos who have all earned Region 9 pitcher or player-of-the-week recognition since the first week of the season. Quinonez is majoring in liberal arts; Luera is majoring in criminal justice; Kerin is majoring in business and Villalobos is majoring in pre-engineering. Below is information on their accomplishments. The Rough Riders are currently tied for the lead in the Region 9 North Baseball standings with a 2-1 record.*
Week 1 - 1/23/23 to 1/29/23
Pitcher - This week’s Pitcher of the Week is Diego Quinonez, a sophomore right-handed pitcher from Luna Community College. Diego played a huge role in Luna’s first win of the season, a 4-2 win over Eastern Arizona College. Diego tossed 6 innings while only allowing 2 runs along with carrying a no hitter into the 6th.
Week 2 - 1/30/23 to 2/5/23
Pitcher - This week’s Pitcher of the Week is Ashton Luera, a sophomore right-handed pitcher from Luna Community College. Ashton was instrumental in Luna’s 18-6 win over Amarillo Community College. Ashton hurled 6 and ⅔ innings while only allowing 4 runs (3 earned) along with 5 K’s.
Player - This week’s Player of the Week is Kohle Kerin, a freshman outfielder from Luna Community College. Kohle was 6 for 14 on the weekend (.429) along with 1 2B, 1 3B, and 2 HR’s. He also added in 6 RBI’s, 3 runs scored and 3 BB’s. His biggest blast helped to secure the victory for Luna in their 18-6 win over Amarillo Community College.
Week 5 - 2/20/23 to 2/26/23
Player - This week’s Player of the Week is Jose Villalobos, an infielder from Luna Community College. Jose was 6 for 11 on the weekend (.545) with 2 2B’s, 7 RBI’s, 6 R’s and 2 HR’s. The infielder helped the Roughriders to a record of 2-1 on the weekend.
