Luna baseball holding on to second place in Region 9 baseball standings
The Luna baseball team continues to hold on to second place in the Region 9 South Division baseball standings with a 10-11 record. The Rough Riders trail Trinidad State who sport an 11-9 record.
The Rough Riders recently finished a series against Northeastern Junior College where they went 2-2. On Wednesday of last week, Luna swept two games from the Adams State Junior Varsity team.
Luna’s Jose Villalobos has 16 homeruns on the year trailing only the nation’s top home run leaders by one. Villalobos is also No. 32 in the nation in hitting .425. Teammate Wilmer Henriquez is 49th hitting at a .421 clip.
As a team, the Rough Riders are 16th in the nation in homeruns, 14th in doubles, eighth in hits and ninth in total bases.
The Rough Riders play at Otero College this weekend.
The Luna softball team recently split four games with McCook Community College winning 8-0 and 3-2. The Lady Rough Riders are 5-9 in conference and will participate later this year in the postseason.
Luna hosts Northeastern Junior College this weekend. The games will be held on Thursday, April 6, Friday, April 7 and Saturday, April 8.
Luna is ranked 45th in the nation in hitting with a .356 clip. The Lady Rough Riders are 75th in doubles with 51.
