Luna Vocations Department donate bikes to kids

Several area children will be getting their Christmas wishes granted thanks to the Luna Community College Vocational Education Department.

Faculty and staff in the department pitched in to purchase four children’s bicycles to donate via the local Children Youth and Families Department’s gingerbread man wish list giveaway. The gingerbread man promotion is located at Lowe’s on Mills Avenue in Las Vegas. The CYFD’s giveaway found two boys and two girls who listed bikes on their Christmas wish lists; they will receive the bikes in time for the holidays.

In order to preserve confidentiality, the childrens’ names were not disclosed.

“Got to love Black Friday,” said Andrea Herrera-Gabaldon, administrative assistant for Vocational Education. Herrera-Gabaldon helped spearhead the donation effort.

Those who combined to donate funds for the bikes – two 20-inch and two 16-inch cycles – include Anthony Baca, Louie Benavidez, Clarice Bonney, Geno Castillo, Lin Chibante, Florencio Garcia, Andrea Herrera-Gabaldon, Gene Martinez, Stormi Miller, Louie Plagge, Gene Sandoval, Germaine Sandoval, Hope Sandoval, Paul Vance and Karen Wezwick.
