Luna Rough Riders move up to four-year schools
Six Riders move up
Progression shows development within Luna program

Six Luna Community College baseball players are continuing their academic and athletic careers at four-year institutions this coming school year.
It’s a positive sign for Luna’s student-athletes and the program as a whole, said head baseball coach T.C. Nusser.
“Our goal at Luna Community College is to have all our players academically and athletically able to complete at the next level,” he said.
Trent Dewyer will be attending Kansas Wesleyan University in the fall. Trent is from Atrisco Heritage Academy in Albuquerque; he was a starting center fielder and one of the starting pitchers. Over his career at Luna, Trent appeared in 67 games; his best game on the mound last spring came against Ottawa University JV when he went five innings allowing zero earned runs and striking out 11.
Dylan Begay will also be attending Kansas Wesleyan University. Dylan is from Shiprock High School in Shiprock, and was one of the Riders’ standout relief pitchers. Over his career at Luna, Dylan appeared in 25 games; his best game on the mound last spring came against Ottawa JV when he went 3.2 innings allowing no earned runs and striking out seven.
Adrian Munoz will be attending Sul Ross State University. Adrian is from Americas High School in El Paso, Texas, and was a starting third baseman this past spring. Over his career at Luna, Adrian appeared in 60 games; his best game last spring came against Midland College when he went 2 for 3 with a home run and 3 RBIs.
Kyler Rinehart will be attending Southwest Baptist University. Kyler is from Westmoore High School in Oklahoma City and was a Luna outfielder. Over his career at Luna, Kyler appeared in 16 games; his best game last spring came against Wayland Baptist University JV where he went 2-4.
Daniel Morales will be attending Texas A&M University Texarkana. Daniel is from Plano High School in Merkle, Texas, and was one of Luna’s starting pitchers this spring. Daniel appeared in five games for LCC, with his best outing on the mound coming against Ottawa JV, when he threw seven innings, only allowing one earned run with five strikeouts.
Will McBride will be attending Eastern New Mexico University. Will is from Palestine High School in Palestine, Texas, and was a relief pitcher this past spring. Over his career at Luna, Will appeared in nine games, his best against Odessa College when he went 2.1 innings without allowing any earned runs.
“We are excited to see our Rough Riders move on to the next level and wish them the best of luck on their journey,” Nusser said.
The Rough Riders welcome a number of new faces this fall.
“Luna Community College is very excited with the group of athletes that we are bringing in for the fall of 2020,” Nusser said. “We have athletes coming from New Mexico, Texas, Hawaii, Colorado, Nebraska, and Puerto Rico.”
Twelve players hail from the Land of Enchantment. Ryan Clark is a left-handed pitcher from Valencia High School. Dakota Cummings is an outfielder from Manzano High School out of Albuquerque. Jose Flores is a middle infielder from Gadsden High School. Nick Gonzalez is a catcher from Santa Teresa, N.M. Myles Harvey is an outfielder from Kirtland Central High School. Xavier Lopez is a first baseman from Volcano Vista High School in Albuquerque. Collin McWethy is a third baseman from Manzano High School in Albuquerque. Oscar Medrano is a middle infielder from Valencia High School. James Moya is a right-handed pitcher from Valencia High School. Cezar Ortiz is a first baseman from Farmington High School. Chisum Rush is a right-handed pitcher from Grady, N.M. Andres Soveranez is a right-handed pitcher and first baseman from Pojoaque High School.
Nine student-athletes are coming from Texas; they are Grayson Edwards (RHP, Wylie, Texas), Caleb Schweizer (RHP, Ingram, Texas), Jake Seglem (1B, Weatherford, Texas), Alec Rocamontes (1B, San Antonio, Texas), Francisco Ochoa (3B, Saginaw, Texas), Boston McIntire (SS/RHP, Boyd, Texas), Jason King (OF, Boyd, Texas), Milo Behrens (C, Granbury, Texas), and Gabe Musick (C, Fort Worth, Texas).
Luna expects to have one student-athlete each from Hawaii, Colorado, and Nebraska — Logan Wilson (RHP, Hilo, Hawaii), Matthew Gelwick (OF, Littleton, Colo.), and Brandon Zweiener (C, Norfolk, Neb.).
The team also anticipates three student-athletes from Puerto Rico — Samuel Saldana (RHP, Fajardo, P.R.), Gabriel Diaz (RHP/OF, Rio Grande, P.R.), and Ian Guillen (CF, Coamo, P.R.).
“We are excited to have these athletes join us in the fall and become Rough Riders!” the coach said.
