Luna’s Dr. Carol Linder leading CROP Walk efforts at college

Initiative raises funds to fight hunger

Luna’s Allied Health Sciences and Public Service Director Dr. Carol Linder will be leading the college’s CROP Hunger Walk scheduled for 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27.

This is the third consecutive year that Luna is participating in the CROP Hunger Walk. Luna begins its walk at the Maria H. Paiz Administration Building and circles the picturesque campus.

CROP Hunger Walks are community-based walk events held in cities and towns across the nation, raising funds to support the global mission of Church World Service, a faith-based organization that responds to hunger, poverty, displacement and disaster around the world.

Luna students and employees participate in the in the college’s CROP Hunger Walk last October in response to hunger, displacement and disaster around the world. Donations are being requested.

Locally, 25 percent of all donations will go to support local entities: Comedor de San Pascual Soup Kitchen, Las Vegas Community Soup Kitchen and the Samaritan House.

“I’m very pleased that Luna will be participating again this year in such a worthwhile cause,” said Linder. “We’ve already had commitment from the Rough Rider softball and baseball teams and the student senate and hope to involve more groups and individuals.”

Luna is one of several entities from around the community who have joined the worthy cause. This is the 22nd year for Las Vegas’ CROP Hunger Walk,

The CROP Project was organized in 1947 when farmers were asked to donate food and seed crops in post-World War II Europe and Asia. In 1969, the first walk events were organized in Bismarck, N.D., and York, Pa., to raise money. Since then, CROP Hunger Walk events have been held in communities all over the United States, raising millions of dollars in an effort to eradicate hunger and poverty.

“Please consider joining us in our goals to end hunger in our community and the world by walking and/or giving,” said Linder. “We will provide more information on this year’s CROP walk through our college’s social media and local radio.”
